Royal Gramma

Gramma loreto

Origin: Carribean

Reef Safe: Yes
Whether or not a fish is "Reef Safe" simply refers to the fish's likelihood of eating corals clams, or invertebrates. If you're not keeping any of those than having a fish that is not reef safe might be perfectly fine for you! For those that do however should watch out, any fish marked as not being reef safe might end up eating all your corals.

Jumper: Rarely
A fish referred to as a "jumper" is one which might take large leaps out of the surface of your water on occasion. In order to house a fish known for jumping you need to ensure that your tank is completely covered or else your fish might go "carpet surfing" and be out of luck.

Max Size: 2.5

Reccomended Tank Size: 10 gallon minimum.

Temperature range: 72-82F

Description:
The Royal Gramma has a beautiful gradient of purple to yellow across it's body. It can sometimes be confused with the Bicolor dotty back, which is similar but with a straight line separating the purple head from yellow tail, rather than the smooth gradient of the Royal Gramma.

Diet:
The Royal Gramma will accept most prepared foods once setttled in. Brine shrimp and other small meaty food are ideal, it will prefer to pick food out of the middle of the water column.

Temperament:
The Royal Gramma is generally a very shy and peaceful fish. It is uncommon for it to attack other fish or to cause any issues in a reef tank. It should be added before other aggressive fish to allow it to find an appropriate hiding place.

Special Notes:
This fish will orient itself to to be parallel with whatever surface it is closest to. This will often result in the fish swimming straight up or even upside down. This is perfectly normal behavior that can sometimes be mistaken for illness. This fish is a cave dweller so it should be anticipated to hide the first few weeks in a new tank.
