Torch Coral

Euphyllia glabresens

Origin: Tonga, Fiji, Solomon, Jakarta

Description:
This coral has long sweeping tentacles that look very hypnotic in the home aquarium. They are an aggressive stinger and will easily damage nearby corals. Their long tentacles can reach up to 12" so care should be exercised when choosing a location. They can be mounted onto rockwork using epoxy putty on the skeletal stem under the fleshy coral. They should be kept underwater when transporting or the tentacles can be easily damaged by snagging on things out of water.

This coral is in the same Genus as Hammer and Frogspawn corals and be usually placed near them. If too close it can over power it's relatives though.

Lighting Requirements:
Torch corals do not require extremely bright light and can be kept under compact flourescents. They do prefer direct lighting though.

Flow Requirements:
The flow around this coral should be minimal to the point where the tentacles are only gently moving in the current. The coral will retract when in areas of high flow.

Growth:
This coral will grow rapidly and tentacles can extend up to 12" in areas of higher flow. They should be given adequate space from other corals so they do not sting their neighbors.
