Frogspawn
Euphyllia divisa
Origin: Jakarta, Bali
Description:
The frogspawn coral is Large Polyp Stony coral with a hard skeleton and soft fleshy polyps. The polyps are often light in color with brightly colored circles on the tip of it's tentacles. These circles are often green or purple and carry a strong sting against other corals.
Frogspawn can come in a variety of morphs with varying colors and shapes in the polyps. The skeletal structure of Euphyllia divisa seperates it from it's sibling Euphyllia paradivisa. While Euphyllia paradivisa has a branching, tree-like, skeleton, Euphyllia divisa has a single continuous skeleton connecting all of the "heads" together. The branching variety is much easier to split and thus propagation is more common making the frogspawn wall a less common sight in the aquarium trade.
The frogspawn coral is a large polyps stony coral with large fleshy polyps and a rigid skeleton from which the polyps extend. The skeleton is made of calcium carbonate and will require proper water chemistry for continued growth.
Lighting Requirements:
Like most Euphyllia corals the frogspawn can tolerate a wide variety of lighting from compact flourescents to T5 flourescents or metal halide lighting.
Flow Requirements:
The frogspawn coral prefers a gentle flow which would typically be considered moderate to low. The flow should never be so great that it causes the polyps to retract, instead they tentacles should just be gently waving.
Growth:
The wall frogspawn grows from a large skeleton, growth continues upward as the skeleton gets taller as well as longer as it widens. The wall variety of frogspawn does not typically have individual heads and thus propagation is more difficult than with branching frogspawn.
